The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has gifted the sum of N20 million to the families of police officers killed recently in a ghastly accident along the Zaria-Kano expressway.

The five policemen deployed from the Kano command to Edo State for the gubernatorial poll were involved in the unfortunate road accident.

Besides, eight other men from the Kano command who sustained degrees of injury in the fatal auto crash had successfully completed their operation and were on their way back to base when the tragedy struck.

Ganduje announced the donation on Saturday when he paid a condolence visit to the families of the late police officers in Bichi town, Kano.

The APC Chairman regretted that the men lost their lives while on an active national assignment and pledged the continued support of the party to comfort the relatives of the deceased.

“We are here not for celebrations but to offer condolences and sympathise with the families, the IGP, and the entire Kano community for those who died while returning from a national assignment, which occurred two weeks ago.

“It has been the tradition of our party and government to always be with families in grief and to comfort them and make them feel that they are not alone in this sad moment,” Ganduje grieved.

Ganduje noted that the accident was a sad moment not only for the Police Force but for him personally and the nation in general, adding that five officers died instantly while 10 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

He said, “I decided to personally come down to Bichi because of the enormity of the death, and because the officers gallantly died in active national service.”

The House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Appropriation, Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, who accompanied the APC National Chairman, said that the incident personally touched him, and he felt the pain of those who died and left their families behind.

He said that as a member of his Federal Constituency, Bichi, he sees the death as one that affects his family and he took it personally and felt the grief.
