The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Edo State, Prof. Anugbum Onuoha, has urged Nigerian citizens to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise and get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Onuoha emphasised that active participation in the electoral process begins with voter registration, describing it as a civic duty that empowers citizens to choose their leaders and shape the nation’s future.
The REC, while reflecting on national development and the role of citizens in governance, maintained that to ensure things are done rightly, citizens should take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise.
He spoke in Port Harcourt during a special thanksgiving service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Rumuepirikom Deanery, in the Diocese of Niger Delta North, Port Harcourt, to mark his promotion to the professorial rank, saying that participating in voter registration contributes to nation-building.
“As we give thanks to God for His mercies, we must also play our part in building the Nigeria we desire.
“The ongoing voter registration exercise provides every eligible Nigerian an opportunity to be part of the democratic process”.
I encourage everyone, especially young people, to register, collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and be ready to vote when the time comes,” he said.
He, however, expressed gratitude for the elevation, noting that the elevation was a significant milestone in his career and appreciated God for His grace and favour.
Meanwhile, the Anglican Bishop of the Niger Delta North Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Wisdom Budu Ihunwo commended Onuoha for his steadfast commitment to both spiritual and civic responsibilities.
The bishop described him as “a shining example of a Christian academic who reflects integrity and excellence in public service.”
