Educationists seek quality education for female gender

THE low quality of female education in Nigeria was the focal point of discussion at the recent launch of a magazine by the National Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE), Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education Chapter, with educationists calling for improved education for the female gender.

Simply called WICE, the new magazine’s name tallies with the name of the association.

According to the speakers at the event, which was part of activities marking the maiden biennial WICE week, educating the girl-child and providing her with the required knowledge and life skills, alongside strong family values, were critical factors in driving change and transforming any given society.

In her remarks, the president of the association, Egboh Fasilat, said WICE, as a women’s organization, would continue to assist women within and outside the college to meet up their challenges.

She said the major objective of the organisation is to sensitise women to have quality education and develop themselves in any sphere of business they want to establish.

“I am delighted today that WICE is launching its magazine, which is part of our commitment to educate mothers and our female children to contribute to nation-building,” she said.

The Provost of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Bashorun Olalekan, said the college was delighted to be part of WICE activities.

According to him the association since its inception has championed the cause of women development in key sectors of the society.

He said: “WICE has contributed in making women who had lost focus in making an impact to the society become productive. Based on these achievements, I am delighted to be part of the launch of the magazine. Women have played key roles in making the country a better place to live in by the effort they have put in place to assist to build our homes.”

Apart from the funfair associated with the event, the group also gave awards to prominent members of the association who have contributed to the development of the association as well as the wife of the former governor of Lagos State Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, for her assistance to WICE.
