Ekiti State Government has assured the residents of the state that it would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that every citizen feels safe and secure in all parts of the state, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority of the government.
Recall that Ekiti State has been ranked as the safest state in Nigeria, according to a Q2 2025 Security Report by SBM Intelligence. The state reported only one incident during the period, making it stand out as the safest among all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Also, in 2023, Ekiti State topped the list of safest states in Nigeria, with only six deaths caused by insecurity, according to StatiSense.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji spoke in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend during the inauguration of the newly constructed Armoury and Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Building as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.
The Governor, who was represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Adeoye Aribasoye, said the projects were conceived to strengthen the capacity of security agencies and further consolidate the peace and safety that the state is known for.
Explaining that his government recognises the importance of security as the foundation for growth and development, the Governor said his administration would continue to invest in critical security infrastructure, logistics, and personnel welfare to ensure that the state remains the safest in the country.
“To the residents of Ekiti State, your security and wellbeing are at the centre of every decision we make. We remain committed to listening, learning, and delivering with integrity, urgency, and humility, and these projects reflect our government’s pledge to deliver tangible infrastructure that directly improves the safety and quality of life of Ekiti people.”
While commending the dedication and professionalism of the security operatives in the state for their commitment to maintaining law and order, the Governor said his administration would continue to provide the needed support to enhance their operational capacity and improve their working conditions.
He charged residents to remain law-abiding and support the efforts of security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities within their communities, maintaining that the commissioning of the new projects was a clear demonstration of his government’s commitment to continue making Ekiti one of the safest states in Nigeria, where citizens and investors can live and thrive without fear.
“The commissioning of these facilities aligns with our administration’s safety and security architecture, which emphasises prevention, preparedness, and the protection of vulnerable communities and people, and by investing in the RRS, we are investing in the ability of our security and professionalism—hallmarks of a modern, responsive state.
“The Rapid Response Squad is a critical pillar of Ekiti State’s security strategy, capable of rapid deployment to incident scenes, enforcement of law and order, and containment of criminal activities.”
In his welcome address, the State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, highlighted the importance of an armoury as one of the most sensitive and important units in defence where weapons ranging from the hardcore to light weapons, including other accessories, are safely kept, adding that the new state armoury can compete favourably with the best nationwide.
The Police Commissioner affirmed that the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) is the engine room of the command as they help to fight hardcore crime.
He expressed appreciation to the Governor for recognising them by upgrading their offices, adding that the gesture will further encourage them to work harder.
“I want to use this medium to seek the continual support of all residents and citizens of the state in the fight against crime and criminality. Our hands must be on deck to ensure that criminals are eliminated from the state.”
