The one-day workshop, which held in Keffi yesterday, assembled INEC officials from the nineteen states in the north. Project coordinator of ECES, Rudolf Elbling said the training was necessary in order to build the capacity of EPM to track political financing during and after the 2019 elections in line with the electoral act.
He urged the participants to deliberate on ways to effectively monitor the activities of political parties, enthrone healthy campaign finance practices that would entrench internal democracy amongst the parties, assuring that if lessons from the workshop is properly implemented it would serve as feasible solutions to the emerging threat of vote buying and selling in the general elections.
Some of the participants suggested that the persons to be tracked should include aspirants who are being used as agents by politicians to spend money above the statutory limits.
The INEC representatives agreed to ensure strict compliance.
