Ex-Bauchi SSG petitions police over corruption allegations

The immediate past Secretary to the Government of Bauchi State, Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police over alleged defamatory comments linking him to corruption.

In a petition signed by his lawyers, Muhammad Ishaq Esq. and Jamilu Salihu Esq., Kashim urged the police to invite and investigate one Sulaiman Yau, popularly known as Yawale, for defamation of character, harassment, and cyber-related offences.

According to the petition, Kashim’s attention was drawn on September 28, 2025, to a viral video in which Yau allegedly accused him of involvement in the theft of N51 billion, alongside a former Accountant-General of the state.

The comments were reportedly made during an event of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area.

The lawyers noted that although Yau did not mention Kashim by name, the comments were widely interpreted as referring to him, given his recent position as Secretary to the State Government.

They described the allegations as “false, malicious, and defamatory,” stressing that they were calculated to damage Kashim’s reputation, integrity, and political career.

“The publication has caused him grave emotional distress, reputational injury and social disrepute, with the clear intent of tarnishing his name and undermining his political prospects,” the petition read.

The lawyers requested the police to investigate Yau’s actions, prosecute him for alleged criminal defamation and cyber offences, and prevent further spread of the defamatory content.
