A former Managing Director of Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), Chief Emmanuel Chukwuma Ometa, has died in his Abuja home at the age of 66 years.

Born on July 17, 1949 in Osile Village , Ogbunike, in Oyi Local Council of Anambra State, Omeata attended Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha and University of Ife , now Obafemi Awolowo University, where he studied Electronics/Electrical Engineering, graduating with a First Class in 1976.

Starting his professional career with the National Electric Power Authority, Ijora, Lagos, as a pupil engineer in 1977, he later joined Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) in 1988 from where he retired in July 2003, in full capacity as Managing Director/Chief Executive, as a result of a management consultancy agreement which the Federal Government signed with Pentascope International of Netherlands.
