Ex-UNN VC, Shehu, dies at 92

Former Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) between 1978 and 1980, Professor Umaru Shehu, passed on, yesterday, at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), aged 92.

Shehu was Professor Emeritus, Community Health, University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and President, Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS).

He also had a Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) degree from the University of London; received a fellowship of the Institute of Cancer Research and was the Editor-in-Chief of British Medical Journal.

The don, who was born on December 8, 1930, held IRCT (London) and over a dozen professional titles in Nigeria and Liverpool to commence working as a pre-registration house surgeon, Southport Infirmary, United Kingdom in 1957.
