In a determined push toward sustainable oil production, experts have called for the need to eliminate gas flaring and reduce capital expenditures(CAPEX) in production fields.
They also called on all government agencies and related bodies to help support the presidential mandate on reducing methane production in the country.
The Chairman of Pana Holdings, a parent company of PE Energy Limited, Daere Akobo, during a seminar yesterday in Lagos, announced the introduction of MultiPhase Pump (MPP) Technology, a solution aimed at eliminating routine flaring in the country.
The technology introduction was in partnership with Bornemann, an engineering company based in Germany. During the seminar tagged, “Eliminating Flaring and Reducing CAPEX in Production Fields: A Sustainable Approach,” Akobo noted that with the World Bank statement on the reduction of routine flaring in 2030, MPP technology will help reduce the footprint in the industry, thereby reducing the cost of oil production per time.
Akobo explained that traditionally, production wells require a complex series of test separators and additional equipment to segregate oil, gas, and water.
Highlighting that this conventional approach not only increases the capital investment needed but also prolongs the handling process, further compounding the issue of gas flaring.
He said: “The MPP technology simplifies this process. Capturing and pumping the entire fluid stream directly at the production field’s neck minimises the need for multiple pipelines and reduces the footprint of the value chain.
“Essentially, the pump extracts the oil and safely diverts the gas away from flaring, channelling it instead to a processing plant. This not only cuts down on the steel and associated CAPEX costs but also mitigates the harmful environmental impact of flared gas.”He also noted that though the multiphase pump technology is not entirely new, its timely application is crucial.
