FG completes intervention work on UNIBEN gully erosion site

Federal Government has said it has completed and handed over road and erosion intervention projects at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Ugbowo campus.

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, made the disclosure, yesterday, in Benin City, Edo State while handing over federal roads and reinstated gully erosion sites at the university.

The minister, during the handover, said Federal Ministry of Works and Housing completed the project on behalf of the government.

Represented by Federal Controller of Works and Housing in Edo, Razaq Aransiola, Fashola said the project would impact students through quality learning environment.

He said: “The gap in our infrastructure needs is steadily being bridged by a gradual process of repairs, renewal and construction on major highways and it has reached the schools.

“It is not debatable that quality of education will be impacted by the quality of infrastructure and the learning environment and those who doubt it should simply listen to feedback from students in schools, where this type of intervention has taken place.”

“We have successfully intervened in 64 internal road projects in various federal tertiary institutions and handed over a total of 46 as at March 2022 and we now have another 18 ready to be handed over, while we are currently attending to 19 roads in similar institutions across the country, making a total of 83,” Fashola said.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Lilian Salami, thanked the government and the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, for the timely intervention on the gully erosion ravaging the campus of the university and the investment in projects embarked on by the government in the institution.
Salami also called on government agencies to stop encroachment on university land by land grabbers.
