‘FG to announce new list of successful insurance firms for workers soon’
Head of Service, Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office in the Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, told The Guardian in an exclusive interview why workers’ relations presently find it difficult to lay claim to their spouse contributions to the Group Life Assurance after death.
The Guardian had gathered that relatives of several dead civil servants in the last three to four years have been having difficulties in making claims from the insurance companies duly registered with office of the Head of Service, a situation that has put their families in terrible conditions after the demise of their spouse.
The Guardian findings also revealed that government has equally suspended the civil servants Group Life Insurance payments since November 2016 and that relatives of the dead are presently being owed several billions of naira claims as a result of the suspension.
But Oyo-Ita debunked the claims, stressing: ‘’The Group Life Assurance for civil servants was not suspended in 2016 but that the policy expired on August 13, 2016 and was renewed on April 20, 2017 for another one year which ended on April 19 2018 and the process for renewal of the policy is already in an advanced stage.”
