
The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has pledged to empower over 180,000 women out of poverty nationwide through her PET project. The Vocational
Training Project tagged, ‘No Woman, No Nation’, she said, will lift 5,000 women from each state out of poverty.
This was disclosed by the National Chairman of the programme, Ambassador Akintola Oluwasayo Julius, while flagging off the programme in jigawa State.
Julius stated that the estimated cost of the project is N10 million per state.
These include purchase of chemical, ingredients and materials to be used for practical in various departments during the training.
Other expenditures include transportation, logistics expenses, feeding and welfare package for facilitators, training materials for all participants and supporting the accommodation and feeding of trainers, among others.
According to him, the source of funding of this vital project is fund raising through government parastatals, Non- Governmental Organizations, (NGOs) Civil Society, Religious Organizations, Community-bases Associations, Private Organizations, Foundations and Philanthropists.
The Vocational training Project is Specific, measurable, Achievable, Rewarding and Time-bound (SMART), and in completion, it is expected to promote self-reliance by systematically prospecting and executing development projects and programmes which will impact positively on the socio-economic development of the host state and local government councils in each state of the federation.
As Ambassador Julius stated, “after critical analysis and cross-examinations, we noticed that not fewer than 20,000 beneficiaries comprising men, women, youths and widows are expected to benefit from project based on their self-convinced areas if interest.
Ealier, while welcoming Ambassador Julius to jigawa State Govt. House in Dutse, Governor Umar Namadi, commended the First Lady for initiating the programme aimed at providing gainful employment on the teeming women groups and youths.
He assured the First Lady that Jigawa State government was committed to improvement of empowerment programs to its teeming populace at all times.
In her remarks, the Jigawa Chairperson of ‘No Woman No Nation, Hajia Zainab Mohammed Pawa, highlighted the objectives of the organization as non- religion, non-partisan but formed to assist and encourage women societies on the surface of empowerment purposely to acquire skills for better living.
According to Mrs Pawa, the primary objective was to empower women economically and health wise through four cardinal areas of Education, Health, Agriculture and Poverty allevation programs.
