Forget Igbo presidency until 2023,Okorocha tells kinsmen
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has told the south east to jettison the clamour for the Presidency until 2023 after the north led by President Muhammadu Buhari would have completed its eight years tenure.
Fielding questions on the campaign that the south-east should produce the president in 2019 after a closed door meeting with acting President Yemi Osinbajo, Okorocha yesterday specifically urged the people to rather rally round and support the President Buhari-led administration to succeed in the next four or eight years after which Igbo could begin to clamour for the slot.
“What I do know is that Ndigbo should talk about presidency after President Muhammadu Buhari. “I think we should support this government. President Muhammadu Buhari has a tenure to work for four or eight years according to the zoning arrangement, and everybody should follow the zoning although I am not an advocate of zoning,” he said.
The governor said the All Progressives Congress (APC) was working hard to redefine the leadership in the south east so that there will be no confusion. “The APC as a party is strong in the south east. We are trying to rebuild the party and redefine leadership so there will be no confusion. We want to have a united party in the south east.
”We are hopeful from all discussions that about two governors will be joining us to strengthen the party. Right now, we have agreed that Senator Ken Nnamani should take a lead of the party in the south east to enable us have a common understanding, along with other leaders like Chief Jim Nwobodo.,” he added.
On insinuations that Rochas was not worth the political leader that Ndigbo should follow, he noted that “leadership is not in question, we have agreed that Senator Ken Nnamdi should lead. So, it is not about Rochas Okorocha, I am a governor.”
