Four electoral officers feared kidnapped in Cross River

The alleged kidnapping followed allegations that some people attempted to hijack and manipulate the results of last Saturday’s election in the area as a result of which there was tension in some parts of the state.

THERE are fears that four returning and electoral officers may have been kidnapped yesterday in Abi/Yakurr Central Senatorial District of Cross River State.

The alleged kidnapping followed allegations that some people attempted to hijack and manipulate the results of last Saturday’s election in the area as a result of which there was tension in some parts of the state.

The Calabar-Ikom highway was completely blocked at the Ugep axis by thousands of youths who suspected that there may be attempt to manipulate the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency result in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Labour Party was said to have had an upper hand from the results gathered in the field.

The youths took hostage of Prof. Duru Emmanuel and Dr. Ejar Ejar, the returning officers who they suspected to be up to some mischiefs.

Others kidnapped include electoral officers, Dr Erick Efiok and Mr. Maxwell Eba. Sources said Eba however escaped. They were kidnapped at about 10:55 a.m. yesterday and their whereabouts unknown.
