French Embassy donates books to Army language school in Abia

Pledges support for fight against Boko Haram
THE Defense Attaché in the French Embassy in Nigeria, Colonel Marc Humbert, has donated French Textbooks to the new Nigeria Army School of Languages in Ovim, Isuikwuato Local Council, in Abia State and recommended the study of international languages by student-soldiers.

Humbert, during a courtesy visit to the school, lauded the gains recorded by Nigerian soldiers in the fight against insurgency, pledging his country’s support to battles against terror groups in Nigeria and other countries in the sub-region.

Describing the Federal Government’s efforts in the war against the terror network as ‘significant and appreciable,” he called for increased tempo to stamp out the menace.

Reacting to the development, the Army School Commandant, Colonel Joseph Ajanaku, lauded the French Government’s gesture, describing it as catalyst for learning French Language at school.

Ajanaku listed German, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili, and Chinese languages as other major foreign languages offered in the school, whose pioneer students commenced studies in August 2015.

He said the programmes last for six months in the first instance, and another six months thereafter for advanced studies.
