FRSC arrests 25 for fake licences in A’Ibom
THE Akwa Ibom State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has apprehended 25 drivers for possessing fake drivers’ licences.
The Sector Commander, Cecilia Alao told journalists in Eket that the culprits were nabbed during a special operation carried out by the command.
She said the offenders had paid the requisite fine with a warning to go get genuine licences.
Alao lamented that these unpatriotic activities were robbing the state of needed revenue.
The FRSC boss said they also arrested a suspect that confessed the leader of a syndicate who had since been handed over to the State Security Service for further investigation.
“Yesterday, we arrested one person and he mentions the producer of the fake licence. We arrested and handed him over to the SSS for investigation. The Command is fighting seriously and going after people holding fake drivers’ licences in the state,’’ she stated.
Alao acknowledged that the command had not done enough in
sensitising the drivers on the new drivers’ licence, adding that it has, however, begun enlightening the public on the document.
“We are sensitising the people as well as apprehending those holding the fake drivers’ licence so that they will go and acquire a genuine one,’’ she clarified.
