The Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams has mourned the victims of the stampede at a funfair event organised for children in the Basorun area of Ibadan, the Oyo State.

The Oyo State Police Command had confirmed that at least 35 persons died in a stampede that occurred at the Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, venue of the family event organised by Wings Foundation owned by a former Queen, Naomi Silekunola.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, Iba Adams said he is deeply saddened by the incident, praying that God comforts the families of the victims.

“I am deeply saddened to hear the story of how these innocent children, who left their homes with the excitement of enjoying a holiday funfair in Ibadan were trampled to death.”

Adams expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and prayed that God grants peace to the souls of the dead.

“In their moment of indescribable pains, I stand with families of the dead and pray that the Almighty God will grant peace to the souls of those little children who have departed in this unfortunate event. I pray that Almighty God comforts all affected families and give fast healing to the injured,who are still in the hospitals.

“My deepest condolences also go to the government and people of Oyo State, the Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin. May the souls of the deceased rest in peace.”
