Governor’s wife calls for special trust funds for wives of armed forces personnel
Wife of Rivers State Governor, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, has called on different tiers of government to establish special trust funds to cater for wives of Nigerian Armed Forces personnel.
Speaking on Friday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, while receiving the leadership of Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Justice Nyesom-Wike said such fund would encourage army personnel to serve the nation with greater commitment.
She stated that the fund would give families of Armed Forces personnel hope that they will never be abandoned, no matter the situation. She said: “The fact that a husband dies in active service should not be an end to the livelihood of the women and their families.”
Justice Nyesom-Wike described women as special and hardworking, noting that being wives of senior officers in the Nigerian Armed Forces makes their role challenging. She assured the NAOWA leadership that she would partner with them to actualise their objectives, as she will present their requests to government for support. The maiden President of NAOWA 6 Division, Mrs. Grace Udoh, explained that the association runs programmes designed to promote the welfare of children, women and youths.
