Gunmen kill two policemen in Bayelsa
Two policemen were on Friday killed by gunmen, who carried out operations in two locations in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. One of the police officer was killed at Udeme Hotels along D. S. P Alamesiagha Road, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The gunmen shot sporadically at the two policemen on guard at the hotel, leading to the death of one of the officers, as they were being moved to the hospital. The gunmen were said to have carted away the policemen’s rifles. The other officer was said to be responding to treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
In another incident at Amarata, a suburb of Yenagoa, armed robbers also stormed a popular supermarket around 7pm on Friday. They killed the policeman on guard.
The occurrence led to tension in the area, with shop owners quickly closing shops, while residents closed their doors in fear of police raid.After the attack, there was traffic gridlock around Amarata area, as motorists made U-turn on the busy Mbiama-Yenagoa Road, to take alternative route and bypass the roadblock quickly mounted by the Police.
