Health experts unveil state-of-the-art fertility centre
One Wellness Centre, in affiliation with Fetal Medicine Foundation in Belgium, has unveiled a state-of-the-art fertility centre to boost proper diagnosis and proffer solutions to reproductive healthcare in the country.
The hyper-modern centre was unveiled, yesterday, at Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State. One of the fertility specialists, Dr. Joe Khalifeh, gave a brief explanation on fetal medicine and how specialised procedure by experts could improve the success probability of fertility treatment with smarter and more precise equipment.
He said: “Fetal medicine has to do with the growth of the fetus and we mainly use ultrasound for the diagnosis. We operate on fetuses inside the womb and these procedures cannot be done for every abnormality. There are few abnormalities where it could be done but mainly in twin pregnancy where there is twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome called monochorionic.”
The Practice Manager at One Wellness Centre, Dr. Chibuki Aigbe, spoke on the uniqueness of the facility and what they have to offer to the public, saying: “We are very unique in our offerings and we have invested heavily in technology and personnel to offer the best management protocols in gynecology and specifically assisted reproductive technology.”
She also spoke on the necessity and need to build the centre to help minimise the rate at which people travel abroad to get better healthcare management.
The CEO, Pretty Baubles, Mrs. Hilda Egboh, spoke on the stigma and secrecy surrounding people who use assisted reproduction healthcare, which she said, is mainly as a result of culture and religion.
She said: “We just want to belong, with the way our culture is. We want to be biological mothers and Nigerians don’t believe in adoption. We are the ones with the most number of children available for adoption, but we are the ones less likely to adopt.”
