One year after the Bodija explosion, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has inaugurated a 10-member committee to oversee the disbursement of relief funds for the victims.

The activities of this committee will be monitored by the state’s deputy governor, Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal.

The state government on Monday announced this development on X.

This is after a series of pleas from the displaced residents to the state government for help.

The government said the 10-member committee on the Management/Disbursement of Bodija Explosion Relief Fund will ensure the efficient disbursement of support to victims of the Bodija incident whose properties were affected by the explosion that occurred on 16 January 2024.

On January 16, 2024, an explosion rocked Aderinola Street, Adeyi Avenue, in Old Bodija, a suburb of the capital of Oyo State.

No fewer than five deaths were recorded, with 77 others sustaining varying levels of injuries, and 55 houses were damaged as a result of the explosion.

A report comprising the findings of the medical, security, and engineering teams was submitted to the governor in February 2024.

While addressing journalists after the presentation of the report, the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, Fatai Owoseni (retd CP), said three persons of interest were identified in connection with the cause of the unfortunate incident.

Owoseni also assured the state’s residents that the perpetrators would be brought to book.

In October of that year, victims of the explosion called on the state government for help.
