IGP Egbetokun mourns retired AIG Liman Shettima

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Liman Shettima, who passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at his residence in Jos, Plateau State.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the entire officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to the late officer’s family, friends, and former colleagues.

He described AIG Shettima as a distinguished officer whose life and career were marked by exceptional service, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to the principles of policing.

AIG Liman Shettima retired from active service on June 4, 1999, after a decades-long career marked by numerous significant appointments.

He served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar; Commissioner of Police in charge of Katsina State Command; and Commissioner of Police (Admin) at the Police Academy (Polac).

His leadership and dedication left an enduring impact on the Force and on policing in Nigeria.

The late AIG was widely admired for his professionalism, humility, and unrelenting pursuit of excellence in law enforcement. His contributions to national security and public safety earned him both national honours and the respect of his peers.
The Inspector-General joined family members, well-wishers, and the wider policing community in mourning the passing of AIG Shettima.

He offered prayers for the repose of his soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family during this difficult period.
