Imo plans to increase internally generated revenue
Following the sustained fall in the price of crude oil with drastic reduction in federal allocations to states, the Imo State Government has disclosed plans to increase its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
The government, therefore, urged residents and those doing business in the state to bear with governor Rochas Okorocha.
Receiving members of the Institution of Taxation who called on her at the weekend in Owerri, capital of Imo State, Permanent Secretary and the immediate past Accountant General of the state, Mrs. Stella Udogu, regretted the financial crunch caused by low allocations, stating that government would increase its IGR and tax in the state. Payment of salaries to workers, The Guardian gathered, was becoming a burden to the state government.
While commending members of the institution for the roles they play in tax administration, she pledged the cooperation of the Imo State Government.
In his submission, the leader of the body, Comas Nwohiri, said the members were in her office to inform her about the meeting the body would hold in the state. He also solicited the cooperation of government.
