Indonesia ready to partner Nigeria in fight against terrorism

He said as developing countries facing similar challenges Nigeria and Indonesia had a lot to learn from each other in promoting peace and security.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Harry Purwanto, said on Wednesday that Indonesia was ready to partner Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.

Purwanto said this in Abuja during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said as developing countries facing similar challenges Nigeria and Indonesia had a lot to learn from each other in promoting peace and security.

They envoy identified terrorism as one the major challenges facing many countries, adding that it could better be tackled through cooperation among nations.

Purwanto said terrorism and negative religious extremism were inimical to the economic, social and political development of any country.

He said extremism had always been perpetrated by the minority group and called on the majority to rise up against extremists and terrorists.

“Religious extremists are in the minority. They try to impose their wishes on the majority. It is the duty of the majority to rise and say no to them”, he told NAN.

He said the Indonesian government, in an attempt to address the challenge posed by terrorist, had embarked massive infrastructural development of country.

He said the government was also empowering young people in recognition of the vulnerability of the unemployed to be indoctrinated into terrorism activities.
