Industrialist Tasks Buhari On Youth Employment
RENOWNED industrialist and a governorship candidate in the November 16, 2013 election in Anambra State, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to give priority attention to youth unemployment, which he said has always enjoyed lip service from previous administrations.
Obidigbo, who made this charge during a get-together by the Chief Shedrack Anakwe’s led All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to mark his 60th birthday at Umunya, pointed out that all efforts towards reducing crime rate in the society would always meet a brick wall except urgent realistic step was taken to properly empower and engage the teeming youths who are roaming the streets in search of daily bread.
The industrialist regretted that successive administrations did not do so much to address the situation and warned that the incumbent president should avoid falling into the same error of neglecting the youths who are expected to be leaders of tomorrow.
He noted that one of the major ways of attending to employment needs of the youths of the streets is to develop the non-oil sectors, especially other minerals and agriculture.
He also urged the president to look beyond political party affiliation and other primordial considerations while putting his cabinet together, pointing out that giving appointments to family, friends and cronies is one of the major factors that has militated against the progress of the country.
