INEC shifts state assembly election in Katsina council to April 18
The Independent National Electoral Commiccion (INEC) has postponed the House of Assembly election in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State to April 18.
Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Bagobiri, announced this at a news conference.
He said that some miscreants attacked INEC office in the area and prevented electoral officers from taking election materials to 10 out of the 11 wards in the area, thereby prompting the decision.
He said the election was only conducted in Dan-Ali ward which hasd11 polling units.
Bagobiri added that the hoodlums burnt election materials in one polling unit in the ward.
He said the hooliganism scared away voters in spite of efforts by security agents to maintain law and order in the area.
“INEC has no option other than to postpone the election to April 18,” he said.
Bagobiri assured that the commission would conduct free, fair and credible election in the area.
He also urged security agents and other relevant agencies to take measures that would ensure a hitch free exercise.
