A civic group, Injustice Is Real (IIR), has announced plans to hold an empowerment programme to educate and uplift 100 women on health and human rights. The initiative, scheduled for December 23 in Ikeja, will include comprehensive training sessions to help participants identify human rights violations and understand how and when rights can be infringed upon.
The event will also feature a free medical outreach organised with Dr Simi Health Care Ltd, Yaba Psychiatric Hospital, and Precious Sight Foundation. According to a statement by the group yesterday, information technology experts from Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) will also conduct specialised training sessions to equip women with essential digital skills, highlighting their importance in today’s world.
Speaking ahead of the event, IIR CEO Ngozi Dorothy Molokwu described the programme as a significant step towards empowering women to recognise and confront injustices in their spheres of influence.
“We believe an empowered woman is an empowered nation. Through this programme, we aim to inspire women to advocate for their rights, health, and the rights of others,” she said.
Molokwu expressed optimism that the training and medical outreach would enable the beneficiaries to lead better lives as productive members of society. “By understanding their rights and accessing necessary resources, these women can make informed choices that positively impact their lives and communities,” she added.
IIR is a non-governmental organisation committed to championing human rights, social justice, and equity in Nigeria. The group also focuses on equipping marginalised communities with the tools and knowledge to advocate for equity and justice, enhancing their freedom of expression.
