Institute of Change Management (ICM) has called for the adoption of an ethical and human-centred approach in leveraging technology for transformation.
The resolution was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its maiden yearly conference in Lagos, which brought together change management practitioners, policymakers, industry leaders, academics and professionals across diverse sectors.
The theme of the programme was “Navigating to the Future: Synchronising People, Processes and Technology for the Next Era of Change.” Highlights of the conference were keynote presentations by thought leaders, in which they emphasised the urgency of aligning human capacity, organisational processes and emerging technologies to achieve sustainable transformation.
The communiqué, presented by the institute’s Registrar, Joseph Anetor, observed that technology is both an enabler and disruptor, which necessitate balanced adoption that considers local realities, inclusivity and ethical use.
It noted that change requires proactive and adaptive management.According to the institute, without trust, engagement and capacity building, transformation efforts are unsustainable. It stressed the need for processes to be re-engineered to foster agility, innovation and collaboration across organisations and institutions.
ICM stated that the conference resolved to encourage organisations to institutionalise change management frameworks by integrating people, process and technology dimensions.
The institute further said it will establish stronger partnerships with the government, the private sector and development agencies for mainstreaming change management in policy and practice.
