The Junior Chamber international (JCI), a leadership organisation focused on developing enterprising young leaders across the ever-changing world, has commenced a digital skills acquisition project tagged JCI FESTAC Skill Fiesta.

According to the group, the project, which is being implemented by its local arm, JCI FESTAC, was aimed at equipping over 1000 young leaders living in FESTAC community in Lagos State with digital skills, providing a platform for accessing digital educational resources, facilitating workforce motivation as well as encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset from diverse backgrounds to solve today’s pressing problems as enterprising young leaders.

The 2022 president of JCI FESTAC, Uchenna Achionye, while flagging off the Skill Fiesta project recently, noted that it was designed to prepare and empower young leaders with productivity skills in a digital economy and by so doing contribute to SDGs 1, 4 and 8.

He further stated that the training would prepare the beneficiaries for post COVID-19 era, adding that it would provide the platform to unlearn how things were done before COVID-19 and learn the new ways to go in the “new normal”.

While wishing the participants the best in their new skills, Achionye encouraged them to be serious with the training.

He stated that he would be looking forward to collaborating with them because “the essence is not just to train you and let you go but we want to create an eco-system whereby we can use it and train more Nigerians.”

While expressing the organisations commitment to ensure the success of the Skill Fiesta project, Achionye further stated that JCI Festac partnered with different institutions such as Skill Factory Africa, Jaymas Edge and Namco to enable young leaders within the JCI Festac family and her surrounding communities acquire cutting edge digital skills required to participate in the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Speaking on behalf of the Partners, Founder Skill Factory Africa, Victoria Nwanna, pointed out that youths need digital skills to pursue career success and be leaders in technology.

She stated that technology was an enabler, adding that it was only through digital skills training that youths find relevance as leaders in this age.

Beneficiaries of the Skill-fiesta project were full of praises for JCI and its sponsors for facilitating the training.

A trainee, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, Esther Ohabuiro, said the training has equipped them with the skills needed to be an excellent content writer in the digital marketing industry.

He added that they have been fully equipped on how to position themselves and their businesses in the digital space, stressing that they were fully motivated to be part of the digital transformation occurring globally.
