Jigawa State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigeria-Arabian Gulf Chamber of Commerce (NAGCC), to promote trade and industrialisation in the state.

The MoU signifies Jigawa’s commitment to attracting foreign investment in agriculture and revitalising the Maigatari Border Free Trade Zone.

Governor Umar Namadi and his deputy, Aminu Gumel, led the state government’s delegation, while Chief of Staff to the President of NAGCC, Dr Kassim Gidado, represented the chamber.

The NAGCC delegation commended Governor Namadi’s efforts in promoting investment in the state, particularly in sesame, hibiscus and other crops. They expressed their intent to connect Jigawa with potential investors in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Responding, the governor thanked NAGCC for its interest in Jigawa and reiterated the state’s commitment to its 12-point agenda, which prioritises agriculture and economic development.
He highlighted Jigawa’s position as the leading producer of hibiscus and sesame in Nigeria, with aspirations to become number one in rice production as well.

The MoU was signed in a colourful ceremony at the Government House, presided by the governor, and attended by members of the State Executive Council and a delegation from the NAGCC led by Gidado, who expressed the chamber’s commitment to fostering economic development and trade between Jigawa and the Gulf region.
