Kaduna lawmakers amend 2018 LG law

Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed a bill seeking the review of Local Government administration into law.

During plenary on Wednesday, the Assembly disclosed the purpose of the bill – to amend the local government law of 2018 and strengthen the operations of the local councils.

Speaking to newsmen after the bill was passed into law, sponsor of the bill, Ali Kalat (Jema’a constituency), explained that the present law gave the Assembly the power to check activities of the local councils in the state.

The lawmaker explained that the 2018 law created a lacuna that hindered the Assembly from checking the abuse of power by some local council chairmen.

Kalat said the new law, as amended, has given them the right to suspend errant local council chairmen.
