The dethroned emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has called on Kano residents to maintain peace and abide by the law following the tussle over the traditional seat.
Ado Bayero made this statement after receiving the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gumel, at a mini-palace in the state on Saturday.
Speaking to his supporters, the dethroned emir said no one is above the law and expressed hope that justice would prevail regarding his dethronement.
He added that he would accept whatever the law decides, stressing that Kano is an important state in Nigeria and that peace must not be disrupted.
“I call on the people to remain law-abiding while awaiting the outcome of the legal process on this tussle,” he said.
On Friday, Lamido Sanusi was reinstated by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, as the 16th Emir of Kano.
Sanusi was dethroned by the immediate past governor of Kano State and current national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje.
Prior to the reinstatement of Sanusi, the Kano State House of Assembly abolished the five former emirates created out of the old Kano emirate on Thursday. Governor Yusuf signed the law and gave the emirs of the abolished emirates 48 hours to vacate their palaces.
However, a Federal High Court issued a last-minute order stopping the state government from abolishing all five emirates created during Ganduje’s administration and returning to the system where only one emir led Kano.
Governor Yusuf said he would not recognise the ruling, citing reports that the High Court judge was in the United States when he issued the ruling.
