The Kano State Emirate Councils Amendment Bill has scaled first reading at the state’s House of Assembly. This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini (Dala-NNPP).

The motion was seconded by the member representing DawakinTofa, Shu’aibu Rabi’u. Hussaini, while presenting the motion, said it was aimed at moving the state forward.

The Assembly, presided over by the Speaker Ismail Jibril Falgore, unanimously adopted the motion. At the resumption of plenary, yesterday, the Clerk of the House, Bashir Idris Diso, presented the adopted amendment law for first reading. Falgore, who moved for members’ reaction, subsequently passed the motion for the first reading in the absence of no objection.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, yesterday, paid a courtesy visit to Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, to felicitate with the monarch on his 90th birthday celebration and 60th year on the throne.

The visit was also to strengthen the cordial relationship that had been in existence for several years between the Awujale and the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero.

It was also targeted at reinforcing the enduring ties between the two respected traditional institutions. The Kano Emirate had in an earlier communication dated May 19, 2024, titled, “Notification of our visit to Ijebu-Ode Kingdom” and personally signed by the Emir of Kano, highlighted the dual purpose of the visit to include honouring Oba Adetona on his birthday and to celebrate his notable achievements on the throne.

“The relationship between the Kano Emirate and the Ijebu Kingdom has historical significance, rooted in mutual respect and shared cultural values,” it said.
