REAL Madrid's defender Sergio Ramos and Sevilla's striker Frederic Kanoute have led a fund raising initiative to raise money to help fund education for children in Africa, staging a friendly match at the Santiago Bernabeu to aid the cause.

The Frederic Kanoute Foundation is involved in charity fund raising in aid of the vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Africa and this latest friendly in Madrid has raised 300,000 euros to support educational programmes on the continent.

Kanoute led Africa United, a team assembled from Spanish football’s African contingent, including Sevilla team-mate, Arouna Kone, and Malaga’s midfielder Selim Benachour while Ramos captained a Liga Select side that included a number of Real Madrid team-mates, including Iker Casillas, Marcelo, Alvaro Arbeloa and Esteban Granero.

In the end, it was the Liga Select side that emerged victorious on a 9-8 scoreline, as a crowd of about 30,000 braved the Madrid rain for a worthy cause.
