Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, is soliciting the support of other African states and aviation countries around the world for the re-election of Nigeria into Part 2 of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) council.
A statement yesterday by the Head, Press and Public Affairs, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Oluseyi Odutayo, said that the minister canvassed the support at the ongoing 42nd Assembly of ICAO in Montreal, Canada.
Keyamo is leading Nigeria’s delegation, comprising officials from the ministry; Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Farouk Umar; the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, directors from aviation agencies and other top aviation professionals to the assembly.
Keyamo, at the assembly, expressed Nigeria’s firm commitment to the principles and objectives of ICAO, stressing that the country had continued to invest in infrastructure modernisation, regulating reforms and capacity-building to ensure the sector meets global standards and contributes meaningfully to regional and international connectivity.
According to Keyamo, Nigeria is host to the Regional Safety Oversight Organisation, the Banjul Accord Group Aviation Safety Oversight Organisation (BAGASOO). He added that the country had remained its major contributor while also supporting the activities of the Regional Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA).
