Kwara governor accused of funding private projects with state resources

Governor dismisses allegation

Kwara North Development Commission (KNDC) has threatened to sue Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over an alleged announcement to fund the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) projects of over N250 million.

The governor, however, dismissed the allegation as a move to destabilise the existing peace and harmony across the state.
The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, said it was a normal development to prioritise and attend to communities’ needs.

He claimed the allegation was sponsored by insensitive politicians, especially in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP.)

“Why couldn’t they just request support if they need something; why should they condemn the authority for supporting a section? It is wrong to fan the ember of disunity.

“It is even bad to be insensitive, the whole world knows that we are mourning; why should they and their sponsors be so insensitive and unconcerned,” he queried.

However, a statement by the group’s President and Secretary, Abdullahi Mansuma and Hajia Zainabu Seko, respectively, described the plan as “an outright illegality.”

“We reject this move and declare it as illegal and discriminatory. This is an outright illegality, and we will challenge it in court at the appropriate time,” the statement read.

The group accused AbdulRazaq of planning to deploy state resources to fund (IEDPU) projects, further describing the announcement as discriminatory, unlawful and condemnable.

The commission expressed dissatisfaction with what it termed an imbalance in the state governance, accusing the governor of favouring his Ilorin Emirate, at the expense of other regions. The governor had at an IEDPU gathering last week, announced to fund a N250 million pavilion for the group.
