The Labour Party (LP) has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Uwais, while calling on the Federal Government to honour his legacy by fully implementing the recommendations in the Electoral Reform Report he chaired.
In a statement on Saturday, the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, described Justice Uwais as an outstanding jurist whose leadership and integrity significantly advanced Nigeria’s judicial system and democratic progress.
Senator Usman emphasized that the Electoral Reform Report stands as a lasting testament to Justice Uwais’ commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and electoral process.
“To truly immortalize Justice Uwais’ contributions to the nation,” she said, “the government must act on the report’s recommendations, which provide a clear blueprint for credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.”
She extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late jurist, the legal community, and Nigerians at large, stating: “Justice Mohammed Uwais was a beacon of integrity and an elder statesman whose impact will be felt for generations. His death is a significant loss to Nigeria.”
“May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and provide comfort to his loved ones during this difficult time,” Usman said.
