Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF), Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, has assured the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Forum in the 19 Northern states of NSGF’s collaboration towards tackling various challenges of the region and nation at large.

Lalong was speaking to the new leadership of Northern ALGON, who visited him at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, yesterday.

Led by their Chairman, Bala Chamo, who is also ALGON Chairman in Jigawa, members of the delegation said they were at the Government House to pay homage to the governor, whom they described as a leader who has demonstrated passion and support for the development of the local council system.

In a statement, yesterday, in Jos, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Plateau Governor, Dr. Makut Macham, recalled that his principal was among the first governors to grant financial autonomy to local councils, legislature and Judiciary in the country.

Chamo also described Lalong as a man of peace and committed leader who has done so much to restore peace to Plateau by adopting an inclusive governance system that gives voice to all shades of opinions.

He also appreciated Lalong’s leadership of NSGF, which he said inspired other governors in the region to join hands in tackling the challenges.

Responding, Lalong congratulated the new ALGON leaders, saying the association would be very useful in working with the governors towards addressing key challenges of the North and the country at large.

So far, there is cordial working relationship between the governors and traditional rulers, youths, captains of industry among others in addressing the challenges of poverty, illiteracy, insecurity, diseases among others, he added.
