LAPO Microfinance Bank (LAPO MfB) has completed the planting of 500 trees in Aba-Aiyepe, Ijebu, as part of its ongoing environmental sustainability campaign, the 3,000 Trees Project.
The initiative, which began earlier this year with tree-planting exercises at Ado Awaye and Pade School of Science in Oyo State, aims to promote environmental conservation and community resilience against climate change.
The Aba-Aiyepe planting marks a continuation of the bank’s efforts to integrate environmental responsibility into its operations while strengthening its grassroots presence across Nigerian communities. The 3,000 Trees Project is aligned with LAPO MfB’s broader sustainability goals, including support for global environmental initiatives.
Speaking at the event, the bank’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Oluremi Akande, said the exercise reflects the institution’s commitment to combining financial empowerment with ecological responsibility.
“At LAPO MfB, sustainability is at the core of our mission. The planting of 500 trees here in Aba-Aiyepe is more than a symbolic gesture; it is a commitment to future generations. We believe that financial empowerment must go hand in hand with environmental responsibility, and through this initiative, we are helping communities build resilience against the pressing realities of climate change,” Akande stated.
HRH Oba Michael Kolawole Adekoya (Olugboyega I, Ilufemiloye, Atayese Oodua), the Alaiye-Aba of Aba-Aiyepe, commended the bank for the project, highlighting its benefits to the local community.
“This tree-planting initiative is a blessing to our community. By planting 500 trees in Aba-Aiyepe, LAPO Microfinance Bank has shown that it is not only committed to financial inclusion but also to the preservation of our environment and the well-being of our people. We are proud to partner in this noble cause and look forward to the lasting benefits these trees will bring,” he said.
The event underscores LAPO MfB’s approach to corporate social responsibility, combining financial services with initiatives that support sustainability, community development, and environmental stewardship across Nigeria.
