LAUTH: anxiety looms over retrenchment
Fears and anxiety have gripped workers of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, as Osun State government has allegedly planned to send many of them packing.
Investigations revealed that the government is considering the possibility of reviewing the employment of some workers in the health facility following an audit report, which allegedly indicated a bloated workforce.
The alleged plan to sack the workers may worsen the labour crisis rocking the hospital as a legal practitioner, Mr Kanmi Ajibola has already dragged Governor Rauf Aregbesola before an Osun state High Court, over the alleged plan to sack about 678 workers in the health facility jointly owned by Osun and Oyo state governments. Osun state is currently footing the workers wages in the tertiary facility.
The state government recently carried out staff audit and accused the management of the hospital to have employed more workers than necessary without approval from the government.
The staff audit fuelled anxiety and apprehension among workers, as rumours continued to fly around that the government might use the audit report as an excuse for retrenchment.
