Lawmakers task police on security in Ogbomoso

The Oyo House of Assembly yesterday tasked the state police command to improve security for residents of Ogbomoso, including the hostels of students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in the town.

The Oyo House of Assembly yesterday tasked the state police command to improve security for residents of Ogbomoso, including the hostels of students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in the town.

The students had on Monday taken to the streets in Ogbomoso, protesting invasion of their various hostels in the town by armed robbers who have been dispossessing them of valuables including laptops, mobile phones and money.

The armed robbers, according to the students, also molested some of their female colleagues.

Speaker Michael Adeyemo in his comments at the House sitting implored the Oyo state police Command to see to improvement of security situation in Ogbomoso.

The speaker,who disclosed that he had received several phone calls and text messages on the security situation in the ancient town also enjoined the institution’s authorities to liaise with security operatives to see to the improvement of security in students hostels.

A lawmaker, Bimbo Oladeji (Ogbomoso North) had while speaking under matter of urgent public importance drew the attention of the House to the security situation in Ogbomoso, and called for the house intervention in the matter.

“There is general insecurity in Ogbomoso. In recent times, there have been cases of armed robbery attacks and harassment of LAUTECH students. I will urge the House to look into the matter”, he said

Meanwhile, the House yesterday received report of its ad-hoc committee constituted to broker peace among factions of the state chapter of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).
The committee under the chairmanship of the majority leader, K.H. Subair, made a two point recommendation including a suggestion that the House should suspend further actions on the issue since a case on it is still before a court and an advice to IPMAN members to desist from making further utterances and actions that could jeopardise current efforts to restore peace to the association.
