MainOne, CAMTEL initiate JV partnership to expand broadband in C’Africa

CAMEROUN Telecommunications Corporation (CAMTEL), the national telecommunications and Internet service provider in Cameroon and MainOne, leading Communications Services Company in West Africa have begun talks to establish a Joint Venture Agreement poised to deepen broadband penetration in the Central African region.

This announcement builds upon the long-standing relationship between MainOne, CAMTEL and Huawei Marine Networks, and the success of the roll-out of the world-class submarine cable network extension, Nigerian Cameroun Submarine Cable System, from MainOne’s Cable Landing Station in Lagos, Nigeria to Kribi, Cameroun, to improve Internet access in Cameroun, Chad and other parts of Central Africa.

Speaking during its courtesy visit to MainOne’s Lagos offices, CAMTEL’s Director General, David NkotoEmane, who led the delegation, highlighted its company’s expansion efforts to boost Cameroun’s low broadband penetration and stressed its poise to emerge Central Africa’s major bandwidth hub and internationally to Europe and beyond.

In her welcome address, MainOne’s Chief Executive Officer, FunkeOpeke, reiterated the company’s vision for a connected West Africa.
