Methodist Church Nigeria urges FG to end hardship, provide amenities

Williams Memorial Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos Central, has urged the Federal Government to tackle the issues facing the country and make social amenities available for the citizens.

The Bishop, The Rt. Rev. (Dr) Samuel Ransford Nortey, who gave the advised at the 15th diocesan yearly synod of the church, at the weekend, with the theme: “Arise and Build,” lamented that the national security is in disarray as many people have been killed, including men and women of the security forces.

Nortey, while calling on President Bola Tinubu to restabilise the economy, said: “The how, where, what, why and when we came to this sorry state of affairs must be clinically examined for us to make progress.”

The bishop, therefore, called for a national rebirth and national restitution to move forward in the country.

He also called on the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to re-strategise with relevant messages to the populace on the dangers of corruption, urging the political elite to lead by example.

Also, the Remo Diocese of Methodist Church Nigeria, urged Tinubu to fix the country’s wobbling economy.

The church, which equally lamented the rising inflation, advised in a communique issued at the end of its 33rd synod meeting held at Rev Mellor Methodist Cathedral, Agbowa, Sagamu, and signed by Very Revd. Jacob Ayedona, the Synod Secretary, Dr. Akinola Soname, the Lay President, and the Diocesan Bishop and President of Synod, The Rt. Rev. Bamidele Ibikunle.

The church urged the Federal Government to step up its commitment towards addressing adequately the growing insecurity in the country and ensure that those behind the condemnable acts of banditry, kidnapping for ransom, arson, and armed robbery, among others, are dealt with accordingly.

The synod also called on the youths to look inward while harnessing their God-given talents and begin to showcase the various endowments in their possession.
