Monarch calls for govt intervention on Ise-Ekiti roads, other infrastructures

Oba Adetunji David Ajayi

The traditional ruler of Ise-Ekiti, in the Ise/Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Adetunji David Ajayi (PhD), has called for government intervention on infrastructural renewal of the community.

The monarch said that the condition of several internal and access roads within Ise-Ekiti remains a major concern, noting that good road infrastructure is vital for economic activities, ease of transportation, and safety of residents.

Oba Ajayi spoke yesterday at a press conference to herald the Ojoaduse festival and community development in Ise-Ekiti.

He said that beyond roads, there is an urgent need for comprehensive renewal and upgrading of public infrastructures, such as health facilities, educational institutions, water supply systems, electricity infrastructure, drainage, and environmental sanitation facilities.

“While appreciating ongoing efforts by government at various levels, I must, on behalf of my people, make a strong and respectful appeal for increased government intervention in critical areas affecting the welfare and growth of Ise-Ekiti.

“The condition of several internal and access roads within Ise-Ekiti remains a major concern. Good road infrastructure is vital for economic activities, ease of transportation, safety of residents, and successful hosting of cultural events such as Ojoaduse.

“We appeal to the relevant state and federal authorities to prioritise the construction and rehabilitation of our town roads to improve connectivity and stimulate local development.”

According to him, modern infrastructure is fundamental to improving quality of life, attracting investment, and preventing rural-urban migration.

“Ise-Ekiti has the potential to grow into a model semi-urban community if supported with the necessary infrastructural framework.

“We are confident that with sincere partnership between government and the community, these needs can be addressed in a sustainable and impactful manner.”

Speaking on the Ojoaduse festival, Oba Ajayi said the festival is a timeless cultural institution deeply rooted in the history, traditions, and identity of the people of Ise-Ekiti.

“It is more than a ceremonial gathering; it is a sacred expression of our values, communal bonds, and ancestral legacy.”

While appreciating the selfless and patriotic roles played by the indegenes of the community at home and in the diaspora, he urged them to fully own the festival, saying that it is not the responsibility of the palace alone, nor that of a select few.

According to Oba Ajayi, those expected at the occasion included the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, senators, and members of the House of Representatives, among others.
