NABTEB releases May/June 2017 results, suggest ways to improve enrolment
The National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB), yesterday released the May/June 2017 result, saying there was improvement in the figures compared to the previous year.
Announcing the result, its Registrar, Professor Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe, said the result showed that 58.7 per cent of the candidates, which translates to 33,712 of the 55,448 total enrolment figure scored five credits and above including Mathematics and English Language compared to 55.9 per cent that got the same scores last year.
“This is an improved performance compared to the previous year’s results where only 38, 280 candidates, representing 55.9 per cent, obtained five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics and 54,448 candidates, representing 79.6 per cent scored five credits and above,” she said.
She, however, charged the Federal Ministry of Education to enforce the admission policy approved by the National Council on Examination (NCE) to apply the 30:70 ratio in favour of Technical and Vocational Education in the admission of students to Federal Science and Technical Colleges.
This, according to her, would encourage more enrolments in the technical and vocational education system.
“The federal and state governments should establish more modern and well-equipped Technical Colleges in all councils as directed by the Federal Ministry of Education,”she said.
