The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has said its officials were not the men captured in a viral video destroying bags of sachet water being transported by a truck in Lagos.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunboh Wahab, had fingered NAFDAC as responsible for the action while dissociating his ministry from the incident.

According to Wahab, “Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the individuals in question are enforcement officers from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).”

Wahab, who shared on X, added that their actions were part of an enforcement exercise targeting sachet water that did not comply with NAFDAC regulations.

In a swift response, NAFDAC shared, “The videos circulating of individuals engaging in enforcement activities are NOT NAFDAC officials or part of our Investigation and Enforcement team.”

The agency further stated that stopping vehicles to destroy products is unprofessional and not in line with any of its Standard Operating Procedure.
