Speaking at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, during a visit of the university’s delegation, NDDC Interim Administrator, Effiong Akwa, said the agency would provide a 1000KVA power generator and a 23-seater bus for the university.
He also said it would include its request for hostels and other infrastructure in its 2022 budget, adding: “We will award a new contract for the students’ hostel project because the previous hostel was sited in a water-logged area, among others.”
Vice-Chancellor of NDU, Prof. Samuel Edoumiekumo, commended the NDDC for building the capacity of universities in the Niger Delta region, pointing out, however, that the university needed more projects to expand its capacity.
“For instance, we have a student population of 20,000, but we can only accommodate 2,500 and this creates a challenge for our quest to provide a conducive learning environment,” he said.
