Two brothers have been nabbed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with 5 kilograms of cocaine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja, Lagos, while attempting to board a flight to India.

In a statement signed by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the duo were identified as John Abugu and Kenneth Abugu, ages 43 and 31, respectively.

John and Kenneth, who were arrested on April 3, claimed they were traveling to India for medical treatment. However, whitish powdery substances, which were later confirmed to be cocaine, were discovered on the walls of their suitcases at the Lagos airport.

Their arrest is just one of the numerous cases of arrests made by NDLEA operatives that week.

The same day they were arrested, a 20-year-old Ghanaian–British man, Parker Darren Hazekia Osei, was intercepted by NDLEA operatives at the airport in Lagos.

The 20-year-old, who told NDLEA operatives he was a computer science student at East London University in the United Kingdom (UK), was caught with 36 parcels of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis weighing 19.40kg, packed in a giant traveling bag.

Osei disclosed in a written statement that he lives with his parents in the UK but left London about a week ago for Bangkok, where he picked up the illicit drug consignment to deliver in Nigeria.

In Kogi earlier that week, NDLEA operatives arrested a 33-year-old lady, Ngozi Ogili, who attempted to traffick 3 kilograms of methamphetamine from Lagos to Abuja.

Babafemi said the 33-year-old was nabbed in a commercial transport en route to Lagos.

“She was nabbed in a commercial transport bus along the Okene-Lokoja highway on Monday, 31st March 2025. A follow up operation at her point of delivery in Apo mechanic area of Abuja led to the seizure of quantities of Loud and Colorado, both synthetic strains of cannabis,” Babafemi disclosed in a statement.

“Another suspect, David Chinemerem, 21, was nabbed with 2,050 ampoules of pentazocine at 7 Nnajiego Lane, Umuode road, Aba on Tuesday 1st April,” Babafemi further noted.

Other suspects nabbed by the NDLEA include Obinna Sunday, whom 195,000 pills of tramadol was recovered from; Ugochukwu Ojalanonye, who was nabbed with 4.2kg codeine syrup and 5.4kg pentazocine, Sunday Ayogu, Faith Effiong Etim and Victoria Asuquo Etim.

Ayogu was intercepted with 25kg skunk and 90.4g of methamphetamine, while Effion Etim and Asuquo Etim had cannabis plantations where they had 250,000 kilograms of the psychoactive plant.
