Newlywed couple survive accident on way from Ikoyi registry
A newlywed couple have survived an accident that occurred on their way from the Ikoyi registry on Saturday in Lagos.
The incident happened near Ilaje towards the Iyana Oworonshoki axis when a mini truck (AGL 22 YE) and a commercial LT bus (BFG 204 XF) collided.
The bus rammed into the mini truck, which had slowed down due to mechanical issues.
According to a report by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), 18 persons, including the newlywed couple, were rescued from the accident.
LASTMA said 16 passengers in the LT bus consisting of 11 women and five men sustained injuries. They were immediately rushed to an emergency centre for treatment.
“Two additional passengers seated at the front of the LT commercial bus were trapped in the wreckage and suffered severe fractures to their limbs.
“They were extricated with the combined efforts of LASTMA personnel, emergency responders, and concerned bystanders. These victims were later rushed to Gbagada General Hospital for specialized treatment,”the report said.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA general manager, was quoted as saying the agency will intensify public awareness campaigns to educate on safe driving practices during the festive season and beyond.
