A group that promotes empowerment of rural women, tree planting and urban forest campaign, among others, the Esteem Hub Foundation, is collaborating with another body, Education as a Vaccine, to organise a three-day training for critical stakeholders in Minna.
The theme of the event is, ‘Dialogue with women groups in Niger State on climate justice advocacy’. The exercise, which aligns with their project launch of African Activists for Climate Justice, draws representatives from different clusters, including farmers, market women, students and persons living with disabilities (PWDs).
Director of Esteemed Hub Foundation, Princess Doosuah Agbadu, and Head of Programmes Education, Oluwatosin Alagbe, said the training aims to create a widespread climate change awareness and justice, disaster management, and raise advocates for climate justice such as “cutting down on harmful practices in our environment,”
Referencing the flood prediction in Niger, they said women need to be prepared, as they and children are most predisposed.
Representing the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, the Director Planning and Programmes, Mary Yisa, called on participants to make good use of the workshop and enlighten their communities on the dangers of climate degradation, adding that for every tree cut down, two or more trees should be planted.
